Minister to Students Job Description:

Principal Function: The Minister to Students is a member of the staff team called of God to this position in the church. The Minister to Students shall work under the leadership and guidance of the Pastor and the Holy Spirit and in cooperation with other members of the staff and members of the church. The Minister to Students is responsible for the development and promotion of the overall church student program

Supervisor: Pastor

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Ministry Assistant for Minister to Students, Youth Interns, and adult volunteers

Knowledge, skills, abilities required:
Desire to follow the Lord
Desire to lead people to Jesus Christ and help them grow spiritually.
Ability to work under pastor’s guidance and with other staff and church congregation, community and students.
College degree with seminary degree or master level equivalent degree.
Minimum of 2 years experience in youth related field.
Knowledge of work of committees.
Ability to organize and follow through on plans.
Current knowledge of Christian Student activities and youth work.
Ability to get along and work well with students, parents and other church members.

Duties:

  1. Counsel with students individually to lead them to a salvation experience and toward a deeper commitment of their lives to Christ.
  2. Serve as leader to the Youth Council in planning all activities for youth.
  3. Visit as needed in coordination with the staff.
  4. Seek to get students involved in all areas of church life and explore new areas of involvement under the guidance of the Pastor and the Youth Council.
  5. Encourage student visitation to prospects and inactive youth in conjunction with GROW, an outreach program.
  6. Provide staff leadership to college students.
  7. Prepare an article for the weekly newsletter as needed.
  8. Plan, coordinate, promote, direct and evaluate the student ministries and activities of the church through the student program organization. Lead in conferences, camps, fellowships, mission activities (Summersalt, World Changers, Evangelympics, etc.)
  9. Assist Nominating Committee, organizational leaders, and staff in enlistment and training for volunteer leaders in program organizations to accomplish purposes of Christian education. Recruit parents and other adults to assume positions of leadership in Sunday School, Wednesday nights, lead teams, etc.
  10. Create a system of leadership training which includes leadership roles for students.
  11. Coordinate student activities with other ministers, as these ministries relate to the youth ministry (i.e. Youth Choir, Youth Handbells, VBS, etc.)
  12. Coordinate with the educational program directors and Associate Pastor on use of facilities, space and equipment.
  13. Prepare annual budget for needs of student program. Administer student section of budget.
  14. Study new materials, programs, curriculum and make recommendations as necessary for greatest spiritual development of students. Stay current on youth trends. Be a consistent learner and take advantage of continuing education, conferences and workshops.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Pastor and work within the Personnel Policy manual.
